John Stevens started karting in March 2022 when he turned 5 years old. He started with his dad in a local car park. It was a real father and son bond before stepping onto a real track, Rye House, which is the same track where many British F1 drivers started, including Lewis Hamilton.

We went twice a week until he was up to speed, and now being at a competitive level, he did his first IKR event at Rye House. Being the youngest on the grid, he drove amazingly well, finishing 10th and setting a personal best lap time for himself. The main goal for the weekend was to finish all three races safely, and he did that and more! Three top 10 finishes and a personal best.

John has verbal dyspraxia, which means his speech isn't brilliant, but he knows exactly what to do when you tell him. It's like he's done it before. We find that go-karting has brought him on so much for his confidence along with his speech, so win-win 🏆.

Motorsport runs in the family, as John Stevens Senior raced in the VAG Trophy and VW Cup in 2015/2016. But now, John puts all his time into John Stevens Jnr. John Stevens Senior said, “I get just as much enjoyment watching my son race. It amazes me how much they learn as, let’s remember, they are still kids.”

In 2023, John Stevens competed in the Rye House IKR series and the MVKC at Buckmore Park, coming second in the Rye House IKR and fourth in the MVKC at Buckmore Park. In his first year of racing, he has achieved a lot more than what we were expecting. He has competed with kids with a lot more experience than he has had and had many podium finishes along with driver of the day trophies.

The plan for John in 2024 is to compete in the national series, Superone Series and BKC with a few club rounds thoughout the season.
